Welcome to the Counselor's Corner! Here is a little bit about the Counseling Program at West Elementary!
Once a month Mrs. Bailey goes into each classroom to present a whole-group lesson on a social-emotional learning topic. These may include preventing bullying, showing empathy, respecting diversity, and many others. The goal of this is to help each of our students develop lifelong skills that will enable them to get along with others, to work productively as part of a community, and to both give and receive respect.
Sometimes students are pulled for groups that cover specific topics like divorce, grief, friendships, social skills, and self-esteem. These groups meet throughout the year.
Students who may need to talk about an unexpected event or something that is troubling them are welcome to visit with the counselor. Students, Teachers, and Parents, can suggest for a student to visit with the counselor at any time.
The school counselor works with teachers, staff, and district staff to help families and students receive services they may need.
